Trade As One

These past couple of months have been busy here at Trade as One! Along with planning for our busy fall event season, ordering lots of new products, and updating our website, we’ve been hard at work compiling dates, photos, and stories from our producers. We’ve used this information to create the Trade as One 2010 Calendar. The calendar will feature stories and photos of artisans and farmers from around the world who’s lives have been changed through Fair Trade and the purchases you make with Trade as One.

As a little ‘teaser’ of what’s to come in the calendar, here’s a preview story of Maman Nafissetou, one of the makers of our Fair Trade body care products from Alaffia: 

Maman Nafissetou joined the Alaffia cooperative in May 2003. She is always smiling, as she loves her work and takes pride in her role of overseeing the crystallizing process of turning oil into shea butter. Her salary allows her access to health care for her family, and she is now able to save a quarter of her salary each month, something that would have never been possible before joining Alaffia. With her savings she has been able to start several small businesses for her daughters. “I do not wish to ever leave the cooperative, because the Alaffia cooperative is an initiative that supports the poor like me.”
